EAST COAST BANKIES
This was a million miles from Clydebank’s best performance of the season and Haddington’s players must be lying awake tonight realising that they will never have had a better chance to put last years finalists out of the Scottish Cup. However, the visitors were rather light weight up front and in the end Bankies only had to perform for about 20 minutes to win the game.
Basic errors continually gifted Haddington possession in the first half but it was still Clydebank who had the more clear cut chances with Dymock in particular forcing the visiting ‘keeper to pull off a fine save. Athletic had the chance to take the lead just on half time but Tiropoulos tipped the shot over.
Budgie must have laid down the law at half time and the simple errors that had plagued the Bankies in the first period didn’t appear for the second. It was still an hour in before Clydebank really lifted their game and started pressing the Haddington defence further up the park. Stevie Dymock, looking suspiciously off side, had a great chance just after the hour mark when in acres of space his shot was saved wonderfully by the ‘keeper. Then with 20 minutes remaining a free kick from the left fell to Paul Allum and he hit his shot low through a crowded penalty area and into the net. The goal was met with a sigh of relief as much as a cheer but with the afore mentioned lack of shooting power Haddington had up front it was indeed game over. Bankies now await to see who they get in the next round. In a change to the scheduled fixture, due to Kilsyth having a cup replay, Bankies now travel to Ayrshire to play Annbank in a crucial Champsionship match next Saturday. See the official site for bus times.
